Fort McMurray’s own Jessey Touchette scored the overtime winner for Team Gold in a 3-2 win over Team Blue in the Oil Barons’ annual intrasquad game.

It capped off a two-goal comeback for Gold, which trailed 2-0 after 1 on goals by newly-acquired Jordan Clark and Harry Hendrix.

The two assisted on each others’ goals while Brett Printz had assists on both.

Gold stormed back in the second period off goals by newcomers Aaron Macklin and Scott Pooley to send the game to the extra frame and set up Touchette’s winner.

New MOB captain Brock Maschmeyer says with training camp wrapping up, he’s already settling into that leadership role.

“I’ve seen a lot of captains go through,” he said. “This’ll be my fifth year [in the AJHL] and I’ve seen all the captains from my past years, and seen what they did, and what maybe they could improve on.”

Hendrix, the veteran MOB forward, had 2 points for Blue and says the new talent is looking good.

“We’ve got a lot of size coming in, so it’s going to be a whole different dynamic than what we had last year,” he said. “Last year, we were the most skilled team I’ve ever seen in my life, and this year we’re going to be big; we’re going to be a real force in the league.”

The Barons travel to Sherwood Park, Lloydminster, and Bonnyville this weekend to start the exhibition schedule.

The regular season opens at home on September 7th against Drayton Valley.
