TransCanada CEO plans to use rail if Keystone XL not approved

The CEO of TransCanada says if the Keystone XL oil sands pipeline doesn’t get approved, his company will ship oil on trains instead.

Russ Girling says even though pipelines are much safer, he’s already in discussion with rail and oil companies in case Keystone doesn’t get approved by the U.S. government early this year.

He said the company would build terminals in Alberta and Oklahoma.

The company has already built the southern leg of Keystone XL running from Oklahoma to the U.S. gulf coast.
