Treatment working for Bo Cooper

More good news for Bo Cooper as his family announced Thursday evening doctors at the National Institute of Health in Maryland confirmed the therapy has reached the young firefighter’s bloodstream.

Cooper is receiving experimental Car T Cell therapy for a third diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Carla Campbell Cooper posted to the Bo Cooper Leukemia Treatment Fund Facebook page Thursday night that the treatment was working as it should, but it meant Cooper was experiencing extreme fever and chills.

She said doctors told the family it will be a month or more before it’s clear whether the treatment has been effective enough for remission.

The treatment became necessary for Cooper after traditional therapies were ineffective. Because of the costs of the treatment, available to him only in the United States, a family friend launched a fundraising campaign that has seen tremendous support in the community, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The family has said that should the treatment be paid for, a possibility because the trial has received some funding in the U.S., they will find a way to pay forward the donations so generously given by the community.
