Two more trucks hit overpasses: RCMP

RCMP are asking large truck operators to double-check the heights of their loads and to use the available by-passes through town if they are uncertain just how large a load they’re carrying.

This after three incidents this week where trucks struck overpasses.

The first happened Monday morning at the Hospital Street overpass when some damage was done and traffic was disrupted while engineers investigated the damage.

On Wednesday two logging trucks struck two overpasses in town. The Hospital Street overpass was hit around 11:30 a.m., causing little damage but sending debris across the roadway.

At 1:30, the King Street overpass was struck and while there was no damage to the overpass there was a considerable amount of wood debris that had to be cleared from the highway.

Police said there were no injuries in any of the incidents but they are investigating. Neither driver stopped and police are still looking to speak with them.

All lanes of 63 were open as of 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Drivers should know the height of their loads and should verify using posted signage whether they will be able to clear the overpass. If it is even remotely questionable RCMP are asking drivers to use the bypass routes.
