Unanimous agreement all around at council meeting

The city council meeting last night was a short  one with lots of agreement.

Three bylaw readings were all carried, including the first reading for Dunvegan Gardens land use amendment.

If approved it will allow all similar events to access the Draper Road facility.

The issue has been an ongoing one as residents in the area don’t enjoy the commotion brought on the Gardens.

Chateau Boo has been granted a one-time use permit, to allow them to go ahead with their fundraiser at the end of this month.

The by-law would require groups to apply for a development permit through the municipality’s planning and development department.

There was also a report brought forward by Councillor Jane Stroud which was unanimously agreed upon, that would see small rural businesses put into a different tax bracket than big oil companies located in the same area.

This will still need to go to the legislature with the help of MLA’s Don Scott and Mike Allen.

A presentation by Save Our Snye was cancelled as the group is waiting for their second public engagement session which will be held tonight.

The next meeting will see more about Dunvegan Gardens and a presentation by Save Our Snye.

Mayor Melissa Blake also announced she will be away on a personal trip for the next 9 days.
