United Way reaches $8 million target

The United Way of Fort McMurray has more than $1 million in proceeds coming from a single company. Shell Albian Sands confirmed its Community Campaign total is cashing in more than $1 million for the organization.

“Kudos has to go to our campaign chairs and our many volunteer canvassers,” states Manager of Tailings and Water Andy Carter, who is also the 2014 Community Campaign Chair.  “They really focused this year on getting the United Way message out to more people throughout the organization.”

The contribution is adding to a ballooning total for this year’s campaign, which already reached its $8 million goal.

“So much credit goes to our thousands of volunteers who put their heart and soul into the Community Campaign. They really embraced the story of the United Way and our member agencies that impact lives every single day,” said Executive Director Diane Shannon, in a news release.

The organization will announce a final total once accounting is done in early January 2015.
