The RMWB has issued an update on the heated bus shelter investigation and said they have now looked at more than 60 shelters but still have a ways to go before assessing the whole complement of 270 shelters.

Residents can still safely use the shelters because the power has been turned off and no one is able to use the heat.

“The public’s safety continues to be our utmost concern,” explained Robert Kirby, Director, Transit Services. “The inspections are being completed efficiently and effectively, allowing us to re-energize shelters as soon as possible.”

As the power is turned back on at shelters across Wood Buffalo, their doors will be untethered allowing for total enclosure from weather and the activation of the heating elements.

The Municipality said it wanted to thank the public in advance for their patience and cooperation while work is completed and regular service is restored.
