Vista Ridge visits soar

Vista Ridge is celebrating a huge jump in visits over the past year.
The local ski hill reported a 30 percent increase in just one year.
It says the new chair lift helped increase capacity dramatically.
Board chair John Wilson told council this week that it’s been a long journey.
“Skier visits are the currency of any downhill ski area,” he said. “Back in ’96 in year one, we had 22,000 visits. Last year we had 62,000 visits. So we’ve effectively tripled the capacity of the area.”
Wilson says that they’re looking beyond the winter.
“From day one we called Vista Ridge an all-seasons park,” said Wilson, “and that was for the simple reason that we wanted to do activities year-round. So we’ve really started to focus on that, now that we’ve perfected the skiing and snowboarding piece, we’re starting to move towards offering a mix of other activities.”
It’s hoping to start building a par-3 golf course in 2014, and add a zip line course too, among other attractions.
