Yesterday's 30.4 degree weather broke a 1944 record

Yesterday’s 30.4 degree weather broke a 1944 record by a degree and it almost doubled the 16 degree average.

According to 660’s Meteorologist David Spence much of western Canada’s been seeing warmer weather.

“All it means is we’ve had some pretty hot weather for the time of year that were in,” he continues, “keep in mind we are in summer, so while it is unusual to have such high temperaturs this late in the summer, it’s certainly not abnormal.”

He says the weather pattern is more common for August, but it’s not abnormal and doesn’t predict the upcoming weather.

He says Alberta broke a bunch of records yesterday.

“Unofficially more than 20 records, officially about 15, and Fort McMurray of 30.4, was one of about 63 locations in Alberta that reached 30 degrees.”

He says Sunday’s 27 degree weather probably won’t break records.

“It is close to a record; the record is 28.  So the record is in play,” he adds, “however, the forecast is still for below the record  [set] in 1979.”
