The Member of Parliament for Fort McMurray – Cold Lake has been appointed to the standing committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development.

Conservative MP David Yurdiga announced his appointment by press release Tuesday.

“I am looking forward to getting back to committee work, and excited to have been chosen for Aboriginal and Northern Affairs Committee.  Over the last couple of months we have seen considerable developments in this file. Most recent is the ruling by the Canadian Human Rights Commission on aboriginal Education funding,” said Yurdiga in an email to MyMcMurray. “Regardless of what the committee chooses to study I will work with my colleagues on both sides of House to reach solutions that are beneficial to all.‎”

The Committee can study any aspect of the Department’s management and operation, as well as legislation, programs or policy areas administered by the Department.

The Department is primarily responsible for First Nations people, Métis, and Inuit.
