Oilsands not to blame for Canada's GHG emissions: professor

A University of Alberta professor says the oil sands are getting unfair blame for Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Energy economics professor Andrew Leach tells the Canadian Press that too many Canadians still believe regulating the oilsands are enough to fix the problem.

But he says even shutting down the oilsands completely wouldn’t allow Canada to meet its emissions targets.

The government needs to cut 243 megatonnes to meet its targets – that’s four times what it’s on track for right now.
