Wood Buffalo is now officially in the running to host the 2013 Canadian junior curling championships.
Councillor Don Scott chaired the bid committee, but he says plenty of others made the bid happen.
“People from the curling club, people from the municipality, and we had the support of all levels of government,” he said.
Scott says it’s a big opportunity for the municipality.
“When we have a couple thousand people who come to Fort McMurray from all across Canada, they get to see what Fort McMurray’s really like,” he says.
“I believe they’re going to leave with a very positive impression that they’re going to take back to their own communities.”
The result of the bid will come in September.
