The provincial government says the deficit will be smaller than it thought.
Higher oil prices and near-record land sales helped decrease the deficit sixty percent.
Instead of $3.4 billion, the province will be in the red by$1.3 billion.
Finance Minister Lloyd Snelgrove says the news shows the province is on the right path.
But a recent Fraser Institute report said the government was making a mistake by not legislating a plan to cut spending.
