Oil sands company pleads guilty

Norwegian energy giant Statoil pleaded guilty to charges related to water diversion for their oilsands operations near Conklin.

Spokesman Peter Symons says that the company is working with the Alberta government to come to a solution with creative sentencing.

Symons says Statoil expects several of the charges to be dropped. He says charges are releate to Statoils winter drilling program, in which is sprayed water to create ice roads to access the project, and how the company drew that water from local supplies.
