Norway Liberals demand oilsands withdrawal

Norway’s opposition party is calling for the country to pull out of the oilsands.

The move comes after state-owned Statoil pleaded guilty last week to improperly diverting water for its project near Conklin.

The Norwegian Liberal Party says their country should stick to extracting oil from the North Sea only – a process they refer to as “environmentally friendly.”

Statoil said in a statement that Canada will exploit the oil sands regardless of its involvement, and that it would like to use its experience and expertise to do that “in a good way.”
