Mayor gives Premier Key to the Region

Premier Ed Stelmach has been honoured with the Key to the Region during an event hosted by the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo announced today.

The key was presented to the Premier in honour of his unparalleled commitment to Wood Buffalo during his time in office, a period in which his government pledged nearly $2.5 billion in spending in response to the Region’s rapid growth.

Spending commitments included the creation of the Oil Sands Sustainable Development Secretariat, a new bridge across the Athabasca River, new interchanges at Thickwood Boulevard and Confederation Way in Fort McMurray, new water and wastewater treatment expansions, the Parsons Creek and Saline Creek neighbourhood infrastructure, new schools and existing school upgrades, Highway 63 and 881 upgrades, hospital renovations, hamlet infrastructure upgrades, public transit, a long-term care centre and public-sector wage support.

“In recognition of his unwavering commitment to Wood Buffalo, I was honoured to present Premier Ed Stelmach with a Key to the Region,” said Mayor Melissa Blake. “His dedication to improving the quality of life in our community will not be forgotten.”
