Starting today, the distracted driving laws are in effect. That means you can get a ticket for $172 just for being caught not paying attention behind the wheel. You can get ticketed for being distracted by anything from your cell phone, to GPS devices, makeup, or passenger entertainment. Distracted driving is also the focus for RCMP for September’s traffic safety initiative.
Today is also the first day for the municipality’s Go Slow on Green initiative. Intersection saftey devices at busy spots throughout the city will be measuring the speed of all vehicles moving thorugh the intersection. Those caught going to fast will get a ticket from the municipality in the mail.
