The Queen of Country helps kick off SummersEND

Day one of the much anticipated SummersEND Country Music Jubilee kicked off yesterday with one of country music’s biggest stars – Reba – taking to the main stage.

“Reba is truly a world-class entertainer and it was a beautiful night to showcase her talents in Wood Buffalo,” said Claude Giroux, Executive Director of Events Wood Buffalo.

Reba, also known as “The Queen of Country”, has 22 hit singles, two Grammys, over 55 million albums sold and has been in country music for over 30 years.

Opening acts for Reba included Edmonton band Sweet Tequila and Canadian artist Victoria Banks. Victoria Banks was named 2010 Female Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year by the Canadian Country Music Association.

The Blueberry Carnival Midway opened on Thursday as well at 12:00 p.m. with families from all over the region coming out to take in the rides, food, and games. The Midway will be open until September 5 from 12:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m. each day.

“SummersEND was organized with the whole family in mind,” said Claude Giroux, Executive Director of Events Wood Buffalo. “From the Midway games and prizes, to the family friendly concerts, and the DanceXplosion competition, there really is something for everyone.”

Friday, September 2, will see Dierks Bentley perform with opening act Ryan Laird. Bentley’s newest song “Am I the only one” is currently number one on the country music charts. Saturday, September 3rd Canadian country star George Canyon takes the stage with Vancouver sisters, One More Girl, kicking things off.
