Macdonald Island’s board of directors has given the go-ahead to the park’s ambitious outdoor expansion plans.
Board chair Nick Sanders says the next phase will help figure out the cost and schedule for the project.
“Now we let the architects loose, in saying, ‘these are all the amenities we want, now use your expertise to design a building that will give all this areas that we’ve identified,'” said Sanders.
Those plans will be presented to council for approval early next year.
As a result of public suggestions, the park will also consider adding a turf field house and a badminton facility.
“We’ll see what the costing around that has the potential to be before we say that is the right direction for the community,” noted Sanders.
Sanders also says that although 84% of public responses were in favour of the plans, it’s not too late for people to have their say.
“We’re always willing to listen – and I think that’s important to us – we want to continually keep the community engaged as much as possible,” he said.
