Legislature to convene for 2 days, then break

New premier Alison Redford’s first session of the legislature won’t be all that lengthy.

MLAs will convene for two days starting next Monday, then take a month-long break before returning in late November for a longer sitting.

Government House Leader Dave Hancock defended the decision to take the break.

“I think it’s very effective to use those days to allow the premier and the other leaders to frame the agenda, so that Albertans really have a good understanding of the direction that’s being taken,” he said.

Opposition leader Raj Sherman says Alberta already sits the fewest days of any province in Canada, and that major issues need to be discussed.

Redford says she needs more time to create the government’s legislative agenda.
