The municipality showed off its new buses today.

The eight new buses that Wood Buffalo got provincial funding to buy have been branded with the transit system’s new “Woosh” branding.

Mayor Melissa Blake says it’s important to showcase this side of their infrastructure.

“Mass transportation has always been a much more environmentally conscientious means of transportation,” she said. “So if we’re able to work in the mantra of our wanting to be the most sustainable community in Canada, this is really a step in that direction.”

The city also announced that bus passes can now be bought at Macdonald Island, in addition to the Jubilee building.

“The real way that we’re going to make changes to the expediency of transportation systems is with the bus priority lanes that we’ve been putting together,” Blake added. “We’ve already created one down Confederation, Thickwood comes next.”
