Festival of Trees sets new record

The NLHF released the following:

The festive season officially kicked-off  this past weekend at the 22 annual Festival of Trees, presented by Syncrude Canada, in support of the Northern Lights Health Foundation (NLHF) and local health care.

There was something for everyone throughout the three day festivities at MacDonald Island Park, which raised an astonishing $1,005,000.  Festival of Trees celebrations included two new additions to this year’s roster of activities – the Ladies Holiday Shopping Luncheon and the Family Skating Party. Returning favourites included Santa’s Workshop, Santa’s Breakfast, Family Fun Night, silent auction and the heart of the festival – the Gala and live tree auction.

“We say it time and time again, but our volunteers are really the backbone behind this magnificent weekend, says Dan Fouts, Northern Lights Health Foundation’s Chairman of the Board.  “It took approximately 360 volunteers putting in over 2,800 hours to make this weekend a success. I want to extend a big thank you to all of our volunteers.”
Also, behind any great community celebration are sponsors, who support fundraising efforts, to help improve the quality of life for citizens living and working in the community.
“Syncrude Canada has been the Presenting Sponsor for Festival of Trees and a supporter of the NLHF for a number of years,” continues Fouts. “Having the backing from all sponsors, big and small is what makes the work we do possible.”

All funds raised by the NLHF stay in the community and are used to support Alberta Health Services’ requests for support.
“Alberta Health Services looks to us for help to fund medical equipment and health programming, says Tricia Hewitt, Executive Director, Northern Lights Health Foundation. Medical equipment in particular becomes outdated regularly, so we try to keep up with the latest technology to provide the community with the best care.”

Established in 1985, the Northern Lights Health Foundation exists to provide funds to support Alberta Health Services’ funding priorities within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
