Construction Association asks drivers to slow down

The Fort McMurray Construction Association is hoping to put the brakes on aggressive drivers in the construction zone north of the bridge.

It says it’s asking member businesses to require drivers to go the limit and be penalized if they don’t.

FMCA president Charles Iggulden says they made the decision after their members raised concerns.

“Just in the last couple of months, it’s been really apparent with a lot of complaints on traffic flow, aggressive drivers, so we thought we’d take a proactive approach, bring it into the public,” he said.

“Everybody takes pride in their companies, and the last thing you want is a bad image in the community,” he added. “You can always go after the RCMP or city to enforce it, but part of it is education too; and we need to take ownership with our own companies and how our vehicles are driven in the community.”

The association is challenging other businesses to do the same.
