Boutilier: PC Candidate Scott incorrect on importance of government MLA

Local MLA Guy Boutilier says PC candidate Don Scott was off-base in some of his comments yesterday.

After announcing his run for the Tories in the new Fort McMurray-Conklin riding, Scott asserted that this region doesn’t have an effective voice affecting government decisions.

Boutilier says that’s not the case.

“The overpasses at Thickwood, the overpass at Confederation, and our new five-lane bridge, our school that we got – that’s because of me,” claims Boutilier. “The government was saying no, but I kept their toes to the fire.”

Scott said yesterday that the region needs a strong voice within the government.

But Boutilier says a government MLA doesn’t necessarily mean the region will get what it needs.

“I think the best example is our long-term care centre,” he said. “Because of my voice in the legislature, in opposition, they had to change their mind.”

Boutilier says he has been nominated as the Wildrose candidate for one of the two ridings in this region, but the party hasn’t yet said which one.
