Environmental groups want a stop to Northern Gateway

Three environmental groups say they think that the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline should be turned down by the provincial government, saying the risks would outweigh the benefits.

In a new report, the Pembina Institute, along with the Natural Resources Defense Council, and Living Oceans Society recommend that all large tanker traffic be banned from the BC coast.

According to the Vancouver Sun, they also say further diluted bitumen proposals should be shelved until more safety regulations are developed. The pipeline would transport oilsand crude from Bruderheim to Kitimat, BC before being shipped to Asian markets.
