New MOB d-man excited to play for "hometown team"

New Oil Barons defenceman Sam House isn’t at all unfamiliar with his new city.

“I actually was born, grew up, and lived in Fort McMurray for five years,” he said. “It’s exciting to come back home and play for a hometown team here.”

The 18-year old House was acquired from the Calgary Canucks yesterday in exchange for a forward whom GM Gord Thibodeau had gotten from the Calgary Mustangs earlier that day.

House admits it’s been a bit of a whirlwind since getting the news.

“I’ve been busy packing, rushing, getting some things I need to get put together,” he recalled.

“It’s definitely going to be a bit different – from living at home and playing in Calgary, to going back and living with billets, it’s a big turnaround for sure.”

That said, it’s not at all an unwelcome change for the 6’2″, 180-pound d-man.

“It’s a complete one-eighty turnaround for me,” he said. “We were struggling this season with the Canucks, and I’m coming to a brand new team that’s doing great.”

“I’m just overwhelmed, how excited I am to be part of a winning organization.”
