Local taxi companies are continuing to call for the municipality’s director of assessment and taxation to resign.
They say Henk Van Waas wasn’t taken out of context when they claim he told cab drivers they could “go back where they came from” if they didn’t like newly-enforced regulations.
The municipality says Van Waas was talking about drivers who came from other parts of Canada, not immigrants from other countries.
The municipality is at odds with taxi companies over not allowing magnetic lights on top of cars, something the companies say other cities across Canada are fine with.
