Barons slaughter Crusaders 8-3

The Oil Barons dominated the Sherwood Park Crusaders in an 8-3 win last night, while outshooting the Crusaders 37-27.

Those 8 MOB goals came from 8 different players, and 13 of their 18 skaters had at least 1 point.

“It’s been a mantra of our team; it hasn’t been one or two guys stepping up, it’s been by committee,” said assistant coach Tom Keca, filling in that night for head coach Gord Thibodeau.

“The amount of injuries we’ve had this year would be too much for one guy to pick up the slack.”

Justin Fraser got the MOB on the board just 24 seconds into the game and Harrison Hendrix found the back of the net 14 seconds later.

The Oil Barons chased Sherwood Park goaltender Patrick Terris after just a minute-32 with the third goal by Mike Marianchuk.

Despite the lopsided score, Keca says there’s room to improve.

“I thought we were very, very poor in our own zone,” he said. “We gave up a lot of quality scoring chances. It’s so comforting to know that you’ve got an experienced 20-year old goaltender back there.”

“I thought Brody [Hoffman], while 8-3, people may say it was a blowout, it wasn’t, he made some timely saves for us.”

The Barons are back in action this weekend with road games Friday and Saturday night in Lloydminster against the Bobcats.
