The Wood Buffalo RCMP are investigating a suspicious death which occurred on December 29, 2011, in downtown Fort McMurray. Police were called to a fight between several individuals shortly before 7:00 pm, on Main Street near the corner of Franklin Avenue. As a result of this incident a 27 year-old male was taken to the hospital via ambulance with undisclosed injuries. The injured male died later that evening. The cause of death has not yet been determined, an autopsy is scheduled for January 2, 2012.
A 42 year-old male is currently in custody in relation to this incident. No charges have been laid at this time, however the investigation continues. The names of all parties involved are being withheld at this time pending notification of family, and further investigation. As further information becomes available, subsequent press releases will be provided.
