The provincial and federal governments say they’ll reveal the first phase of their oilsands environmental monitoring plan this month.
The province says both governments need to be able to show the world that the oil sands are being developed responsibly.
But he says details of how the system will be governed might take longer to work out.
The monitoring has been promised since last summer when scientific panels found current efforts weren’t good enough to show the environmental impact of the oil sands.
