Thibodeau: "New lineup" coming after loss to Sherwood Park

For just the second time this season, the Oil Barons lost at home in regulation, 4-3 to the Sherwood Park Crusaders. Coach Gord Thibodeau says that they lost the battle of special teams.

“I didn’t think our skilled guys competed very well, frankly,” he said. “Your power play gets that many opportunities, you expect them to have a bit more jam around the net, and we didn’t have that.”

The MOB’s power play went 2 for 15 in Saturday’s game, even with extended 5-on-3 chances and a 9 minute power play. At one point, they trailed 4-0. The Barons won Friday’s game, 5-4 in overtime.

Thibodeau says that he’ll remember this loss when it comes to Tuesday’s trade deadline.

“I think if anything it reinforced the fact that we’re not good enough defensively,” he said. “Certainly we could use a puck-moving power-play guy also, by the looks of it.”

Meanwhile, goaltender Brody Hoffman has committed to Division 1 University of Vermont – the same school that NHLers like Tim Thomas and Patrick Sharp attended.
