PC candidate opposes site change for long-term care centre

The new site for the upcoming seniors’ centre in Fort McMurray is now getting opposition from a Progressive Conservative nomination candidate.

Don Scott is running for the PC nod in Fort McMurray-Conklin and says the province should suspend that decision and consult with local seniors.

“Right after the decision was made to relocate the site to Parson’s Creek, I spent time and went to the third and fourth floors of the hospital, and to Rotary House,” he said. “And I met universal opposition to the relocation.”

Scott says he doesn’t think this position will create any tension between himself and the party for which he’s running.

“I have never received any indication that I have to somehow follow a party line,” he added. “I think the most critical element of being involved in political life is representing the residents of your community, not following some statement that others tell you is right.”

There are currently no challengers to Scott for the nomination in Fort McMurray-Conklin.
