Golden Years Society frustrated at delay in meeting with ministers

Local seniors won’t get to meet with provincial ministers next week like they expected to.

But the province says it still intends to meet with them at a later date.

In fact, Alberta Infrastructure spokesman Cam Traynor says an offer to hold an information session for seniors earlier in the month was declined.

Golden Years Society Second Vice-President Joan Furber says the delay definitely isn’t welcome news.

“There’s a lot of frustration,” she said. “We’re getting nowhere. They’re not answering any of our questions, and they don’t seem to want to answer our questions.”

Furber says she hopes one of the organizations that did get a meeting will open it up to seniors.

Traynor says they’re trying to organize a meeting where the ministers of Infrastructure, Seniors, and Health can all attend.
