Housing market good, but few plan to buy homes in Alberta

The market is right, mortgage rates are looking good, but that doesn’t mean people are planning on buying a house in Alberta.

Those were the findings from a survey for PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Ian Gunn says while many are not planning on making that investment this year, there is still a positive outlook when it comes to the economy.

“When there’s a good look for the economy, guess what, people will do some discretionary spending,” Gunn says. “Combined with interest rates still very low, it’s helpful from the standpoint that most people need to borrow to buy a home. Conditions are very strong.”

The survey spoke with 900 Albertans as well as members of the Calgary and Edmonton chambers of commerce.
