MacDonald Island to host CBC’s Cross Country Checkup with Rex Murphy

MacDonald Island Park would like to announce CBC’s Cross Country Checkup with Rex Murphy will broadcast live from the main concourse of the Suncor Community Leisure Centre on Sunday, March 18.

CBC’s Cross Country Checkup with Rex Murphy is Canada’s only national open-line radio program and is broadcast live across the country every Sunday afternoon on CBC Radio One, on Sirius satellite radio channel 159, and around the world at CBC.ca.

One of Canada’s leading broadcasters, writers, and public commentators, Rex Murphy presides over a lively discussion on an issue of national importance as host of Cross Country Checkup, while taking questions and comments via telephone and e-mail throughout the program.

Close to a half-million listeners tune in to Cross Country Checkup every Sunday afternoon, and on average, 5,000 to 10,000 people attempt to call the program every Sunday.

The March 18 edition of Cross Country Checkup will broadcast live from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. MT, and seating is open to the public and is on a first-come, first-served basis. More information on the topic and on Rex Murphy’s invited guests will be made available in March.

“CBC’s Cross Country Checkup explores Canada’s national narrative issue by issue on a weekly basis, and we’re excited to host Rex Murphy and the program at MacDonald Island,” said Tim Reid, Chief Operating Officer at MacDonald Island Park. “Our region has a special story to tell and we’re honoured to be the window for a national audience.”

Cross Country Checkup is a Canadian tradition and has been on the air most Sundays for almost 50 years. Read here to learn more about Cross Country Checkup.
