Healthcare strike ends with arbitration

A one-day illegal strike by hospital support workers across Alberta has been resolved with both parties agreeing to binding arbitration.

Earlier in the day, more than 600 workers walked off the job at more than a dozen locations across Alberta.

Some employees in Fort McMurray picketed this afternoon to support the strike by their colleagues.

They were protesting the most recent contract offer, which they said was worse than the one they had previously rejected.

The job action led to about 70 cancellations of elective surgeries and delays in getting meals to patients.
