Barons beat Saints, finish regular season #5 in Canada

The Fort McMurray Oil Barons moved to #5 in the national rankings after finishing their regular season with a 4-1 win in Spruce Grove on Sunday afternoon.

It was the first regular season regulation win in Spruce Grove for the Oil Barons in more than four years.

Kevin Lacroix scored the winning goal in a three-goal second period that featured additional markers by Killian Hutt and Justin Rose, who finished the campaign with 38 goals.

Colton Parayko opened the scoring in the first period on a coast-to-coast rush.

It was only the third time all year that Spruce Grove has allowed 4 goals at its home rink; and the Oil Barons did it with seven players out of the lineup due to injury or suspension.

However, because the Oil Barons fell 3-2 to Drayton Valley on Friday night, the Saints had already clinched the division title and a first round playoff bye.

The MOB will take on Grande Prairie in a best of five series beginning Saturday night at the Casman Centre.
