Alternative to Northern Gateway proposed

If the Northern Gateway oilsands pipeline doesn’t get built, there could be a second option to get bitumen exported to Asia.

The Vancouver Province reports that Kinder Morgan Energy Partners has begun design work on a 3.8-billion dollar project to double the capacity of its existing Trans Mountain pipeline from Alberta to Vancouver.

If the project goes ahead, it should be complete by 2017.

Cenovus CEO Brian Ferguson says his company would be willing to ship his product westward that way instead.

Ferguson claims that fifty-five hundred permanent jobs are created for every extra 35 thousand barrels of oil that Cenovus can ship.
