Feds cancel deal with charity because of Enbridge pressure: CP

The Canadian Press reports that the federal government cancelled an agreement with a charity because of pressure from the company behind the Northern Gateway oil sands pipeline.

The federal Fisheries department said it would stop using a more than 8 million dollar grant from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, a U.S. environmental trust, against the advice of public servants.

But the foundation donated through Tides Canada, a group that the feds have criticized for signing up large numbers of speakers for hearings about Enbridge’s pipeline.

Enbridge denies having any part in the decision to end the agreement.
