Premier nixing extra pay for committees

Premier Alison Redford says government MLAs will no longer accept extra money for sitting on committees.

Her decision comes after the Canadian Taxpayers Federation revealed that MLAs were making a thousand dollars a month for sitting on a committee that hadn’t met in three years.

Redford says she’s asked speaker Ken Kowalski to suspend the pay for all legislature committees and review the pay structure.

That’s in addition to another review being done by retired Supreme Court justice John Major on the whole pay structure for politicians.
