Scott and Allen granted leave for election

Councillors Don Scott and Mike Allen have been granted permission to take unpaid leaves of absence as soon as the provincial election is called.

The two are the PC candidates for the two Fort McMurray ridings.

Mayor Melissa Blake says if either of them wins, there could be a by-election.

“Depending on the number of vacancies that exist on council, if there is a need for a byelection, it would happen 18 months before the election,” said Blake. “I personally believe that council has discretionary power after that.”

Scott is running in Fort McMurray-Conklin while Allen is the candidate for Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo.
