Chair of no-meet committee says nothing wrong with keeping money

The chairman of the legislature committee that hasn’t met in three years says there’s nothing wrong with him keeping eighteen thousand dollars he was paid to be the chair.

Tory MLA Ray Prins tells the Calgary Herald that he will wait for the review of MLA pay by retired justice John Major before making any decision.

The standing committee on privileges hasn’t met since November of 2008, but members continued to get a thousand dollars a month.

Liberal leader Raj Sherman, and Wildrose MLAs Heather Forsyth and Fort McMurray’s Guy Boutilier have pledged to return the money they got.

But no PC MLA has made the same promise.
