Obama to expedite southern portion of Keystone XL

U.S. President Barack Obama says he’s not shutting the door on TransCanada’s Keystone XL party.

In a speech today in Cushing, Oklahoma, Obama announced plans to fast-track the southern portion of the pipeline to help relieve a glut of supply.

He says he still hasn’t rejected the Alberta leg of the pipeline.

“The fact is that my administration has approved dozens of new oil and gas pipelines over the last three years, including one from Canada,” Obama said. “And as long as I’m President we’re going to keep encouraging oil development.”

Obama emphasized that he’s left the door open for TransCanada to re-apply with a new route for the pipeline.
