One political scientist says that Premier Alison Redford is expected to drop the writ today, and announce the start of the provincial election campaign.
Mount Royal University professor Lori Williams says that on top of that, the premier will be making the announcement in an interesting location — the riding of Highwood, which is the home riding of Wildrose Danielle Smith.
Williams says that the move is really the Progressive Conservative Party sending a message to the Wildrose.
She also says that with a strong PC candidate in the riding, John Barlow, it should make for an interesting battle.
Meanwhile, Smith will be in Edmonton and Calgary today to launching her own campaign.
