Protesters force cancellation of Northern Gateway hearings

Protesters at a B.C. airport may have caused four days of hearings into the Northern Gateway pipeline to be cancelled.

Members of the panel reviewing the oil sands pipeline were greeted by protesters in Bella Bella, on the province’s central coast.

A New Democrat MLA who arrived with the panel says he’s shocked by the cancellation, because he thought the protesters were respectful.

The proposed project would ship oil sands crude west to Kitimat, B.C. from Bruderheim so it can be exported to Asia.
