MEG turning to WHL games for new employees

MEG Energy is turning to Western Hockey League games to try and recruit workers to its oil sands projects.

Postmedia reports that the company has been buying advertising and setting up tables at Vancouver, Kamloops, Kelowna, and Prince George, promoting fly-in fly-out jobs.

MEG says the partnership was a natural fit because the audience at hockey games matches closely with their employees.

The Petroleum Human Resources Council of Canada released a study last week that suggests companies will need a 73 per cent increase in workers by 2021.

MEG’s initiative is ruffling feathers in the forestry, mining and energy sectors in B.C., which needs ten thousand more workers over the next decade.
