Mulcair blames oil sands for economic woes

Federal NDP leader Thomas Mulcair is blaming the oil sands for the struggles in Canadian manufacturing.

Mulcair told the CBC on the weekend that the oil sands industry is keeping the Canadian dollar at an artificially high value, which means American clients can’t afford Canadian goods anymore.

He blames that for the loss of half a million manufacturing jobs across the country.

He also says he wants polluters in the industry to pay, and for the country to stop shipping raw bitumen.
