Oilsands companies look to help twin Hwy 63 north of McMurray

An industry spokesman says that there’s a chance oilsands companies may be interested in helping the province finance the twinning of Highway 63.

Ken Chapman, executive director of the Oil Sands Developers Group, says the the industry association has asked to meet with the province to discuss the possibility of a partnership.

According to the Edmonton Journal, financial assistance would be a loan and would only apply to construction between Fort McMurray and the work sites north of the city, but not the stretch of highway that leads to Edmonton.

The OSDG says that there is no offer to help complete twinning south of the city, because the provincial and federal governments committed to complete that portion back in 2006.
