Scott excited to take on Associate Minister role

Don Scott says he’s excited to join Alison Redford’s government team.

Scott says the specific responsibilities he’ll have as Associate Minister for Accountability, Transparency, and Transformation are still to come.

“I do understand that it’s going to be pretty thorough review of some legislation that touches on those topics,” he said. “So it’s going to be an exciting and challenging opportunity.”

Scott says his legal background prepares him well for that role.

But he adds he’ll still be lobbying for local issues.

“I just feel tremendous optimism,” he said. “First of all, the Transportation Minister, I’ve indicated over and over again that I’m going to try to corner him as soon as I can so we can make sure that our issues that have to do with Highway 63 are addressed.”

Calgary-area MLA Ric McIver was named Transportation Minister.

Scott also says people will need to be patient early on.

“Results always take time,” he said. “Government works at a slower pace than we would like, but I’m feeling optimistic. I know that Mike [Allen] and I are going to work very hard to try to move the issues of our region forward, and I’m definitely going to press matters as hard as I can to get things moving.”
