Ward 1 by-election announced

Now that Don Scott and Mike Allen have been sworn in for their new roles as MLAs, the municipality now officially has two vancant seats around the council table.

The municipality is now gearing up for a by-election to replace Scott and Allen. As was first mentioned earlier this week, the vote will be on June 25th.

Returning officer Darlene Soucy says that anyone who wants to run for one of the two council spots has until noon on May 28th to get their nomination forms into the municipality. Anyone interested in running for a council position can access the nomination forms on the RWMB website starting this evening. All nomination forms must be handed in at Council Chambers, along with a $100 fee.

Soucy says that when it comes to voters being able to cast their ballots, they’ll have ample opportunity. The municipality will hold 12 days of advanced polls leading up to June 25th. Council has also voted on a recommendation which allows polling stations to be open an hour earlier that that’s normally required.

In the event any voter is unable to leave their home to vote, they can contact the returning office and request returning officers attend their home so they can cast their ballot.
